Iredell Co. Implementing New Emergency Notification System
Hyper-Reach system should be fully operational by June
Telephone-based mass notifications systems are used by thousands of public safety agencies across the United States to warn citizens about local emergencies, hazards and other threats.
Iredell County government officials have selected Hyper-Reach to help bring this same life-saving capability to residents. The county expects to have the service fully operational by the end of June.
The new emergency alert system will provide rapid notification of hazardous and urgent situations using a mix of telephone calls, text and email messages, as well as TTY/TDD service for the hearing impaired. In addition, Hyper-Reach provides Iredell Emergency Communications with access to the Wireless Emergency Alert system developed by FEMA, enabling broadcast text messages to most mobile phones made since 2011.There’s also a free smartphone app for iPhones and Android devices that allows users to display and organize messages for specific addresses that are important to them.
“Our job is to protect the citizens of Iredell County as effectively and cost-effectively as possible.” said Candy Strezinski, director of Emergency Communications. “We’re really excited about this new capability.”
Hyper-Reach is a state of the art mass emergency notification system designed specifically for public safety. The system sends thousands of telephone calls, SMS text messages and emails to geographically targeted households in seconds. A new feature sends broadcast messages to most current mobile telephones in an affected area. And Hyper-Reach Anywhere is a smartphone app lets people monitor their home, office and other addresses they care about.
The County plans to use the service primarily for alerts about weather and environmental hazards, criminal activity and missing persons.Landline phones are automatically enrolled, but mobile phones are only included when people enroll.
“Communications with the public is an essential part of any comprehensive disaster preparedness plan. Quick notification regarding hazardous conditions is critical to overall public safety,” said Kent Greene, director of Fire Services and Emergency Management.
Sign Up - Residents and people who work in Iredell County are encouraged to enroll now by going to the website  http://hyper-reach.com/nciredellsignup.html. A county-specific enrollment page will also be available in the next few weeks.

3-Day Road Market is the last full weekend of July.

July 24 - 26, 2015

Harmony, North Carolina joins the second annual U.S. 21 “3-Day Road Market” scheduled July 24, 25 and 26, 2015. The road market is a 3-day, multi-state initiative known as “Take a Break from the Interstate”, designed to boost tourism and commerce along U.S. Route 21.

Press  Release >

This year’s road market stretches 100 miles on U.S. Route 21 from exit 54 off Interstate 77, northward through Harmony, North Carolina to Wytheville, Virginia. The 3-Day Road Market features hundreds of yard sales, street sales and community events along the historic route.

Joyce Rogers, Mayor of Harmony, encourages residents and travelers to plan a road trip the last full weekend of July and take a break from Interstate 77. "We welcome motorists to explore the panoramic beauty of our countryside in North Iredell and discover local-made products, artisan crafts, collectibles and unique finds throughout the 3-Day Road Market. Treasure seekers will be greeted by our residents and businesses offering yard sales, artisan-crafted edibles and artworks, antiques, collectibles and specialties native to our agriculture and small towns in the Piedmont region. Plan to stay in greater Iredell County and experience a variety of scheduled events throughout the weekend of July 24th, 25th and 26th,” said Rogers.

To learn more about the U.S. 21 Road Market, visit TownOfHarmony.org or contact Town of Harmony, 704-546-2339.
